What is IPL?
IPL is a third generation Intense Pulsed light system used for permanent hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, acne, thread veins and wrinkle reduction.
What is Skin Rejuvenation?
Skin rejuvenation is the treatment of sun damaged skin. Skin rejuvenation is used to boost the complexion, even out the skin tone, tighten pores, smooth out the skin texture and give a collagen boost within the skin. Skin rejuvenation is an excellent treatment to reverse the signs of ageing.
How does it work?
The heat from the light is attracted to the melanin/oxy-haemoglobin in the blood. The heat reaction breaks down the melanin and coagulates the blood within the area. This leaves the body through the lymphatic system leaving the skin with a clearer complexion.
The heat is also created within the epidermis and dermis, making the skin react as if it has had an injury. The blood and collagen rush into this area to repair it leaving the skin with a smoother appearance.
Does it hurt?
The sensation will vary from client to client. The sensation that is felt depends upon the amount of melanin found in the skin. Clients describe it as a heat sensation and with a light sunburn feel after treatment.
What to expect?
Skin rejuvenation will show mild redness of the skin initially after treatment. This is a good sign that the skin is doing its job and repairing the skin.
Do I have to have a test patch?
Yes, test patching and consultation is mandatory by law. It gives us the chance to assess the skin (see how you skin reacts). One of the technicians will quote you a price and go through a consent form with you, then if all is good (no photo-sensitive conditions, immune system problems etc.) we will perform a test patch. This consists of about 3 IPL shots on an inconspicuous place in the area. We will then book you in for 2 weeks later to carry out a full treatment.
Do I need to shave before treatment?
It is advised to shave the area before treatment as this achieves the best results. Hairs should be no longer than 1mm in length.
