What is IPL?
IPL is a third generation Intense Pulsed light system used for permanent hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, acne, thread veins and wrinkle reduction.
How does thread vein treatment work?
The light is attracted to target the chomophore oxy-haemogoblin in the blood. As the light is absorbed by the blood vessels, a heat reaction is caused. This coagulates the blood and destroys protein in the wall of the vessel. The vessel then breaks down and the debris is removed by the body’s natural waste system.
Can everyone be treated?
We can only treat clients for thread veins if their skin is between 1-3 skin tones on the Fitzpatrick scale (if you are unsure of your skin tone on the scale, we will advise you). Sun exposure can increase the risk of pain or burns from excessive light absorption into the epidermis. If you have a sun tan, it is better to wait until the colour reduces to achieve best results.
How many sessions are needed?
We recommend 4 treatments at 4 week intervals for best results. Top up treatments may be required in the future to maintain these results.
Does it hurt?
The sensation will vary from client to client. The sensation that is felt depends upon the amount of melanin found in the skin. Clients describe it as a heat sensation and with a light sunburn feel after treatment.
What to expect?
Slight erythema is seen immediately after treatment and this will disappear in 1-2 hours or in some cases a few days. But after the initial treatment, the veins will start to visibly reduce and break down.
Do I have to have a test patch?
Yes, test patching and consultation is mandatory by law. It gives us the chance to assess the skin (see how you skin reacts). One of the technicians will quote you a price and go through a consent form with you, then if all is good (no photo-sensitive conditions, immune system problems etc.) we will perform a test patch. This consists of about 3 IPL shots on an inconspicuous place in the area. We will then book you in for 2 weeks later to carry out a full treatment.
Do I need to shave before treatment?
It is advised to shave the area before treatment as this achieves the best results. Hairs should be no longer than 1mm in length.
I understand the process and want to come in for treatment.
If you’re ready for skin rejuvenation, just pop in to see us. We can get one of the technicians to talk to you, and book you in for a test patch/consultation. Or alternately call or message us to book a test patch/consultation. We hope to see you soon.
